From a recent newsletter regarding the upcoming album Wildwood

This project has been very personal, challenging, and enlightening for us. As I said in one of the past newsletters, Wildwood is a commentary of sorts on human nature using nature-based imagery throughout the album. One way we explored these ideas was to keep the music (and lyrics, now that I think of it) as instinctual as possible.

Most of the songs were recorded literally as each small part of it was being written so there were virtually no rehearsals. We had no idea what most of these songs would sound like until we finished recording them. The result of this process was interesting to us. All of the ideas were captured while they were fresh and while we were still excited about them. We had no time to over-think anything. Nothing was pre-planned with the exception of 2 or 3 songs that were written long before the recording sessions. Though some songs sound more raw then others, we are happy with these in-the-moment and sometimes feral sounding results.

You will find contradicting and possibly even questionable lyrics at points haha depending on your view of things. Contradiction was something I decided to fully embrace here. I’ve found myself wrestling in the past with where I stand on certain ideas and issues. I decided to embrace all of it. I no longer choose sides. I choose both! Our minds, emotions, and inner natures are too complex to simply pick sides all the time. I found this to be an immense relief surprisingly…and immense fun too haha. So, you will hear words that range from perverse to puritanical, spiritual to godless, hopeful to hopeless, thoughtful to vicious, etc. We wanted to keep it instinctual and “animal” without overanalyzing how it may come across, keeping it real regardless of a potential trainwreck haha.
